Where do I begin? Okay, I’m a 26 year old living in Wisconsin. I’ve lived here all my life – yes, you are allowed to feel bad for me. Don’t get me wrong, Wisconsin is GREAT! BUT….COLD!
Anyway, I’ve had quite the journey with food over the past 10 years. In college, I gained the “Freshman 15″…and then some! I ended up gaining about 40 pounds overall, ending up at my highest weight of 159. I’m only 5′2″ so it was quite a bit of extra weight on my small frame. I joined Weight Watchers and lost about 30 pounds. I then “quit” and gained some back. About a year before our wedding in 2004, I joined Weight Watchers online and again had success. I got married at about 117 pounds and was very happy at that weight. After that, I s-l-o-w-l-y gained back about 13 pounds and am now struggling (but TRYING!) to lose those.
In between, I’ve also went through various exercise phases. Initially when I lost my weight through WW, I was a walker….That’s all I did but I did LOTS of it! Then I tried going with no exercise, then obsessively exercising, then none….you get the idea! Now I’m somewhere in the middle – I exercise a lot, but also know that my body needs breaks now and then.
I now have a very different approach to my “DIET” and am trying to do it in a very healthy, whole food sort of way, not just eat the lowest calorie food to lose weight. I started a blog to not only hold myself accountable (I’ve struggled with binging, boredom eating, etc for years now) but to also hopefully help others through a weight struggle, or even just to pass on some good food ideas
I go back and forth between counting WW Points, and calories…sometimes I’ll do both! (Lucky you!!)

Hi Melissa! Thanks for reading my blog
Mind if I add you to my blogroll?
Jenn – No, I would love it! I’ll add you to mine too!
I love your blog!! Your pup is adorable! I’ll be answering your quesiton this weekend – I’m going to put it in the FAQ section I’m putting up. I’ll let you know when it’s up there!
Hi Melissa.. I love you blog! I am also trying to lose those pounds that first came on in college. I am adding you to my blog roll!
Hi Melissa . . . you have a great! blog here.
Two things:
1 – make sure that you not only do lower calories, but even more important is lower carbs. Don’t worry too much about counting calories .. just low carbs in moderation. Protein is good and so is fat .. except for poly-unsaturated. Most fat is actually very necessary to your health. I’m in a similar weight situation (2x) as you and have lost 30-lbs so far this year with my new “life-diet”.
2 – you and Chad make a great couple! . . . most important is the great friendship you two have . . . keep it up !!
Hey Melissa! I am adding you to my blog roll! Love the pic of your dog, so adorable!
I love your blog Melissa! Hope you don’t mind but I added you to my blogroll.
Take care!
I’ve just started blogging to keep track/hold myself accountable/etc. and LOVE your blog. I plan to add you to my blogroll if that’s okay!
This is a beautiful blog.
Thanks so much for leaving me a comment because now I know you’re out there! Congratulations on finding some balance. I know it’s hard!
Melissa!
I just commented already today but I was wondering if I could email you some personal questions. Let me know what you think! Thanks!
Ali – you definitely may!!! I’ll give you my work address because I check that a LOT more (on the computer constantly at work) – mkrueger@noelgroup.com
Email away!!
Hi Melissa!
I just found your blog and I love it! I can’t wait to keep reading!

Hey Melissa! I just found your blog. I currently live in WI too! I agree with you on the cold. I look forward to reading your blog in the future!
Hi Melissa!
This is my first time on your blog- I have loved browsing- we have a lot in common*
It is Natalie from Seattle
Thank you Thank you for my Christmas package- It was so fun and thoughtful. I am still nibbling on the almonds. The package came right when I needed a pick me up and the weather turned to snow- wonderful timing
Best Wishes- Natalie
ps- I am putting your blog on my regular read list
Natalie – oh great!!! I’m so glad to hear you liked it
I had a lot of fun putting it together! And welcome to the blog, I hope you enjoy and thanks for checking it out
Blasher said above that polyunsaturated fats are “not good” … however that is waaay wrong and I would hate for someone to think that is right and not eat healthy fats!
As a studying dietician, I know 100% any unsaturated fat is very very healthy for you- however- when healthy fat ( polyun or monoun) is manufactured into a shelf stable product- it takes the healthy chemical structure and changes into a rigid, artery clogging structure better known as “Trans Fat” .
So go for the health polyuns. and monouns – the nuts, the vegetable oil’s like olive oil, and the omega 3 sources! They help reduce inflammation, help with cell functioning, brain tissue functioning and cardiovascular functioning to name a few things!
Hi Melissa – I just stumbled upon your blog and noticed you’re doing WW, and I had to chime in to say way to go! I did it online for about a year last year (6 months weight loss and then 6 months maintenance), and I really credit it with changing my life — especially in terms of how I learned how to prepare food for myself and LOVE it. Keep up the good work because it sounds like you’ve found a really good balance. I’ll be checking back!
Hey Melissa! I just discovered your blog and love it! I’ve added you to my blogroll – hope thats ok! I look forward to reading more from you!
Diana
i understand where you’re coming from; don’t all women have the same body struggles w/ weight gain, emotional eating, body image, etc? at least us lucky ones do!

Very inspiring before/after pics!

Hi – great blog! I live in milwaukee and being new to food blogs, I am stoked to have found yours, being a fellow wisconsinite! I want to start up a blog soon, will comment once I’ve started it up
What a great story! I laughed when you complained about Wisconsin being cold – but maybe it’s similar to the weather I’m experiencing here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Today we finally had a day near 30 Celcius! (Not sure what that is in fahrenheit.)
Hi there!
I was so excited when I stumbled across your blog! I am a college student from Wisconsin and my name is Melissa too. Funny huh? I just happened so see something mentioned about hodag and most people that know what a hodag is are from central WI. I will definately need to keep an eye on this.
Aw, Melissa, welcome to the Blog
Where in WI are you from??
