To show you all that I wasn’t always overweight, here is a picture of my Junior Prom in high school! Look how teeny tiny I was………

I guess I never realized I had a high metabolism until I didn’t take care of it and became pretty sedentary in college! P.S. The guy was just a friend of mine. A bunch of us went as a huge group – SO much fun!
Then came the gain! College wasn’t the “freshman 15″ for me, it was more like the “freshman 40″. I weighed 120 all throughout high school but my my sophomore year of college, I was up to 159! Way too much on my 5′2″ frame!
BEFORE
Chad and I in Arizona. We realized that while I was at my heaviest, Chad was at his skinniest! Not a great combo, especially being that he’s a foot taller than me

Ugh, look at my arms in this next one!

Probably my “fattest” picture I have of myself:

Me in my scrubs during my internship at the hospital…..true, scrubs are never flattering, but still!

I think you can see the biggest difference in my face and arms.

Chad and I at a wedding. UGH, I hate this picture
I look like my face is all swollen from having my wisdom teeth out or something!! LOL

AFTER
I joined Weight Watchers about a year or a year and a half before our wedding in June 2004. Being that I had a HUGE motivator (a wedding) I found no trouble staying motivated and working my butt off (literally) to look great on my wedding day! I walked down the aisle at 117 pounds (my happiest) weight. I looked and felt BEAUTIFUL!

June 19, 2004 – Our wedding day was THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE, hands down. Everything went amazingly perfect. The wedding was an absolute blast, and totally us! Instead of our pastor doing a traditional sermon during our wedding, we had him tell the story of how we met. It’s a hilarious and sweet story and we had everyone in tears! Our reception was a huge party to celebrate the joining of our lives and we had so many comments from guests saying it was one of the most fun weddings they’ve ever been too. That was our goal! We also had such a blast and didn’t want the night to end! It was a huge wedding with about 350 people, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Here are some candids:

Now, I LOOOOOVE to dance at weddings. Like, obsessively! I did a ton of mingling at our wedding with all of our guests, but I also danced a TON. I actually only missed 4 songs during the whole dance. Did I mention I wore flip flops the whole day? I’m slightly obsessed with flip flops as well so me and all the lovely bridesmaids wore flip flops and it was very fitting for a June wedding.
Me with a groomsman, cuttin’ a rug

Our first dance:

HONEYMOON
I felt great and wonderful on our honeymoon, as any couple should! We went to Door County and loved every second of it!

AFTER AFTER
Yes, there’s always an after after! It’s relatively easy to lose the weight initially, but I realized the hard way that it’s much harder to maintain a weight loss! Luckily I was successful for the first year or two and stayed around 117-119.
Since then though I’m loosened the reigns a little too much and let about 10 pounds creep back on. I started this blog to get back in control and show you all my journey along the way!

Oh my gosh, love your pictures! You look amazing and so happy!
You look AMAZING! Isn’t it funny how just even looking at the old pictures can be a motivator? That’s one of my favorite pages on my blog – I look at it sometimes, and I’m like – NO – get your ass up and go to the gym

You look great, such an inspiration! I have yo-yoed for years and am finally finding a good balance and my ‘happy weight’! Love your blog!
I loved your photos! You’re an inspiration
Hi Melissa!
Your story is one so many of us women out there can relate to. I’m from WI too, Baraboo actually so not too far from you, but have struggled with weight as well, especially the years right after High School.
I am also 5′2″ and got up to 140…yuck…but dropped it soon after I moved home when I was 20 years old, without even really trying.
I’m now around 120, but I’m a former gymnast and still very muscular.
A tip I have found that might help you in your working out efforts is to find something you love and stick with it, but also to add some weight lifting and strength training. It never fails that when I strength train I lean up and tone up, and people tell me that I look like I’ve lost weight. My clothes fit better, I feel better, and I run stronger, which is what I like to do for cardio.
So, for whatever that is worth, I enjoy your blog, and wish you the best in living life to it’s fullest!!!
God Bless,
Liesl
