Alright, since I am fully committed to FINALLY accomplishing my weight loss goal, I am going to set some goals for myself and publicly declare them!! 🙂
GOALS
- Count calories/points (depending on the day) and actually sticking to that. I am aiming for 19 points/day or 1,300 calories/day. This will vary slightly depending on my activity level, schedule, etc.
- Drink more water!!!! I am aiming to drink a minimum of 64 oz. of water daily. My water bottle at work has oz markers, so that is the easiest for me to track. If I can get in my 64 oz. during my work day, all the water I drink in the evening would be a bonus!!
- Use the stairs at work to go to the bathroom! My desk where I sit at work is literally 10 steps away from a bathroom! However, if I go down the hall and up a flight of stairs, there is another bathroom. I’m making it my goal to use the upstairs bathroom at work unless I’m in a huge hurry for a meeting or something. Bonus: the upstairs bathroom is cleaner and smells better!
- Walk, walk, walk…..I have a VERY sedentary desk job and I’m going to try and get up and about as much as possible.
- Approach parties, holidays, gatherings, etc just like any normal day. I used to have VERY good self control in those situations the first time I lost weight. And it worked! Now however, I use it as an excuse to splurge and as a result, have the feeling “well, now the day is shot, I might as well have those cookies in the pantry, or that ice cream in the fridge! I’ll start over tomorrow”….I need to get rid of that mentality! I have a CHOICE in what I put in my mouth! Sometimes I forget that! I’m not going to starve to death if I choose not to eat something just because “it’s there”!
Those are the main ones that I can think of for now. I also want to implement goals such as getting in 5 servings of fruits and veggies, 2 servings of dairy, etc but right now that is too big of a step for me. Unfortunately we are on a grocery budget and those things are expensive, plus we don’t get to the store very often so my options are somewhat limited. I try to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible, but it’s sometimes hard because I would buy a TON of produce and half of it would go to waste. Chad doesn’t like that stuff so I’m preparing it just for myself which isn’t always ideal. I’m still working on finding a happy medium of getting those things in.
Thanks for reading 🙂 I feel like “announcing” my goals will help cement them for me!!
Good luck! I’ve been slacking recently and I really need to set some goals as well.
Those are definitely some great goals to work towards! You can do it!! 🙂
He Melissa! Writing down goals makes such a difference when i am trying to accomplish something, i think this is a wonderful idea! I was just going to comment you yesterdays post, when you said that you felt just unsatisfied after everything. Sometimes when i can’t seem to get that full feeling, i need to do just that, really sit down and stretch my stomach with a filling meal, not little snakcs, even if its a nice salad! Hot foods help me feel fuller then cold foods a lot of times to, something more comforting about them. And lastly a lot of the stuff you ate were pretty processed (like the lean pocket) i know it can be really hard to eat healthy when your busy, but eating real food always fills me up more then something frozen!
Just some things that work for me that maybe you could consider! Keep up the good work hun!
awesome goals!! I really admire you for putting them all out there! I’d probably be too nervous of breaking them etc… but I agree on the walking thing. Only 50% of the time will I take the further parking space! : )
Those are great goals. I will hold you to it! And maybe adopt some myself 🙂
best of luck with your goals! i too have been slacking but i’m making a full-commitment to healthy with you. we can do it 🙂
Your last goal is my biggest problem! Best of luck with these goals Melissa!
Good for you on the goals! I am always trying to drink more water (can’t you feel the difference in your body and skin when you drink more water!!) Good luck- I know you will accomplish all your goals 🙂
Thank you so much everyone for all your encouragement!!! I agree, writing it down is SCARY 🙂 but hopefully that’ll really hold me more accountable. It sounds like a LOT of us are in the same boat right now and really trying to get on track – I think summer is a big reason……hello, our shorts and bikinis need to fit AND look good 🙂
Jessie – thank you SO much for your advice!!! I totally agree and am really going to try and implement that. That’s very true about the hot meals – I usually feel more satisfied too! And good point about processed foods – they usually don’t fill you up nearly as good as whole foods!!!
Okay ladies – let’s kick some butt and achieve our goals!!!!!
Writing your goals down is the first step to achieving them! I think if you start keeping track of your calories/points, it will help you with splurging at work. If you know how many calories you have left, and you know you have to write them down, it may be incentive to skip the junk food. I sometimes have the same issue with keeping produce fresh. It is just my boyfriend and I in the house and he doesn’t eat fruits and veggies so sometimes I buy too much produce and it goes bad. One thing you can do is buy it frozen. It lasts forever and it may not be as fresh but it is better than nothing!
Good luck!! I too admire you for being brave enough to post your goals to the blogging world – I bet it will help you tremendously when those cravings/temptations strike to go back to this post! 🙂
Lotuslove – AH! Good point about the frozen stuff – I always forget about that option!!! And yes, so true about the calories and points – I think that’s what I NEED – a max for the day because otherwise I just feel free to munch here and there!
Jenn – Thanks! Let’s hope so 🙂
