Good Morning, Blogland!!!
Since my eating has been rather skewed lately (we still haven’t gone true grocery shopping since we got back from vacation!!), I figured now would be an excellent time to tell you all a little announcement. No, I’m not pregnant J Don’t worry Lori!!! (My mother-in-law who reads this too)J
Remember that contest a few months ago that my work was holding for weight loss? The one I did pretty well at and ended up getting to take a dinner cruise in Door County for it? Here’s a little reminder….
Well, my company has decided to hold a second contest, very similar to the first! It’s called the Excess Baggage competition, and it’s a spin-off of Biggest Loser, the television show. We call it Excess Baggage because I work for a company that hosts Travel Agencies and sells travel insurance, so something with luggage/baggage only seems appropriate J
Ready???? Here comes the exciting part!!!
They have asked me to be one of the Team Leaders!!!
Last time, they just had 2 teams, and they were each led by an executive of the company. There were over 200 people in the contest….so, as you can imagine, the executives didn’t have a ton of time to help us, motivate us, kick our butt, etc. This time, they decided to do it a little differently. Almost 300 (!!!) people have signed up, and they’re doing 10 teams. So, I’ll have about 30 people on my time and my assignment is to help them, motivate them, and kick their butts when they slack! J I’m EXCITED! Scared, but excited! I’m just hoping I can find the time to help my team as much as I want to! We need to send out weekly emails with quotes, success stories, helpful tips, etc. I also want to send out a lot of recipes, since I have a TON from weight watchers, etc that I just love and make all the time.
I’m also really excited because I think this challenge will KICK MY BUTT! I need to be an example for my 30+ team members because they’re going to be turning to me for motivation!
I also get to help design t-shirts, think of a team name, etc.
As far as the details go, it runs from November 3rd until January 22nd I believe – as many of you have experienced, this is by far the hardest part of the year to be on a “diet”, try to lose weight, maintain a weight loss, etc. We have Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years – and not to mention all the holiday parties, work holiday parties, family gatherings, and the list goes on! So, I think this is a great time of year to do a challenge like this because hopefully it’ll help keep me, and my team, on track!
We will have a bi-weekly weigh-in and then tracking weight, blood pressure, hip to waist ratio, and % weight lost. I am PUMPED!
I’m also trying to help organize a 5k that our company will hold when it’s all over!!! I am really happy that our company is jumping on the health bandwagon! I am fortunate enough to work for a company in a small community where our CEO is a very, very wealthy and powerful man. Although he’s in his 60’s (??? I think ???), he has really committed himself to a healthier lifestyle and thinks it’s important enough to implement into his company that he’s been growing for the last 25 years. His company is his baby and I’m happy to see these welcomed changes! Hopefully it only continues and grows!
So, I will definitely be updating you all on how everything is going – not only my personal weight goals, but on how it is leading my team, my team’s success’s, etc.
If any of you have ideas, please let me know!!!! Maybe it’s for a team name, motivational quotes to send my team, you name it, send it my way!!!
Isn’t it funny when ever you have an announcement people automatically assume you’re pregnant? Maybe its our age!
So excited that you were selected as a team leader! I wish my work had something like that, it would be so much fun! You should tell you team about all the foodie blogs. 🙂
Good luck!
Wow, congratulations, Melissa! What a nice honor for you! 🙂 Here’s an idea for your team–maybe you could organize some after-work exercise activities. You know, like your whole team (or whoever is available) could go for a power walk right after work, or you could go to a local court and play a basketball game or something. I am not sure what your work neighborhood is like or if SP has trails and stuff like that, but maybe it would help your team members to fit in some exercise if they had a planned activity once or twice a week to look forward to. Hope that helps! 🙂
That’s great! I think it’s especially perfect for you. You could even drive them to your blog? (if that’s not getting too personal!)
Meghann – I know, LOL! Probably the age thing!
Meghann and Ashley – Well…..I did think of telling them about the blog and thought it would be a great idea! However, 3 coworkers from my department are on my team and although we get along well, we’re not friends at all and I think if I told them about the blog, I wouldn’t be able to complain about work at all anymore! Or be careful what I say! Those 3 are also very hardcore workers at times and if they knew I blogged during work, I could see them telling my manager…..
Amy – GREAT idea!!! I kind of thought of doing that too, but didn’t know if it’d be corny! But I think I will! That would be awesome!!!
SOOOOOO exciting that you’ll be a team leader – congratulations, Melissa!! 🙂
Congratulations! That is so exciting! Good for you!
