A New Fave!

Today, a miracle happened!  I wasn’t hungry for an afternoon snack!  OMG 🙂  I still decided to have one around 4:30 though, just because I knew we wouldn’t be eating supper until at least 6:30, and I didn’t want to become hungry at home because that’s usually when I run into problems.  I decided to have a 100 calorie bag of Kettle Corn.  I love this stuff!  My favorite part is that it takes a long time to eat and you can just sit and much and much, and you’re still only consuming 100 calories!!

Since I got done with work at 5 today, I skipped the gym (thank you morning walk for allowing me to do so!!!) and went home.  Chad wasn’t home until 6 so I took Baylee outside and played, while we practiced staying in the yard!  We played frisbee and ate plants….it was a good time!   She left the yard twice but it wasn’t too bad, so all in all it was a successful training session.  The funniest part is that whenever birds fly by, she doesn’t realize how high they are so she “chases” them and jumps up to grab them.  As of today, she has been unsuccessful at catching one.  Poor pup!

Now, onto the good stuff.  Supper.  YUMMMMO!!!  Yep, that’s right: YUMMO!  🙂  I tried a new concoction and made Shrimp Pesto. 

I just made Whole Wheat Noodles, sauteed some shrimp, and then whipped up the Pesto seasoning recipe from Tastefully Simple!  It was SOOO good.  Very, very easy as well!  On the side I just took Whole Wheat Hamburger bun and sprayed them with Pam, sprinkled on Garlic Salt, and baked them for about 10 minutes at 375 degrees.  (My WW leader taught me this Garlic Bread trick and it is awesome and very low cal!).

Afterwards, I took Baylee for another 50 minute walk.  Usually Chad does the evening walk with her but I took tonight – he’s going to be alone with her a couple upcoming nights so I gave him a break.  Aren’t I the best wife EVER????  🙂

A trip down memory lane

Well the day turned out to actually be really nice – the rain went away, the clouds cleared, and the sun kind of peaked out!  Maybe spring is here!?!?

I had a couple of snacks today that I was excited about all day 🙂  I love stuff like that!  For starters, I had a Vitamuffin Top….if you havent’t ever had them, try them now! RIGHT now!  They are so good!  And only 100 calories/1 point each!  Very filling too – I probably wouldn’t have even needed a second snack.  Oh well 😉

Then a little later I made mock – cracker – nachos?  I had some Ak-Mak whole wheat crackers.  Love these!  And I also had some LF Cheddar Cheese.  I was just going to have “cheese and crackers” but then had a novel idea to heat them in the microwave!  YUM!  Definitely a new favorite.  Here is the pre-microwave shot.  (Sorry, no post-microwave shot; camera battery died on me).

I also had to make a lunch trip to Target to run some errands.  While there, I spotted Figamajigs – I knew I needed to try them after seeing them on Kath’s blog.  When I got back to work I first tried the candy coated ones……not so great surprisingly.  Then I tried the dark chocolate ones.  MMMMM!  That’s more like it!!

After work, I went to the Y for an hour and had an awesome workout!  I freaked out at first because I forgot my earbuds (well….didn’t forget, my husband actually borrowed them and didn’t tell me!!!!  I know, I know!) and hate doing cardio with nothing to listen to.  It worked out fine though because a friend of ours was actually there and we got treadmills next to each other so got to chat.  I did a 5 minute warm up, then ran for 22 minutes straight!!! yay!, then walked for 5 minutes.  I then did 30 minutes of weights, abs, and stretching.  I burned about 410 calories according to the HRM.

We made a quick delicious supper when I got home.  Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!  Well, I did anyway…Chad had other stuff.  I had a can of Amy’s Tomato Bisque.  I find it funny because I hate tomato soup generally!  Well, not hate, but don’t like AT ALL!  I tried this stuff because everbody was talking about it, and fell in love with it!  YUM!  On the side, I had a Western Alternative Pita, with provolone and cheddar cheese, and baked it in the oven. 

I learned to top my Tomato Soup with crushed up Saltine crackers and RF Parmesan Cheese, thanks to Chad’s childhood traditions:

The cheesy pita was perfect for dipping!!!

After supper, we took Baylee for a walk and came back and cleaned up the house.  Great ending to a great night!

Light and Fresh

Lunch today was a new combo for me, and it did not disappoint! 

I took an Ezekial Hot Dog bun, and spread 1 wedge of light laughing cow cheese on it, then topped it with cucumber, dill, spinach, and avocado.  YUM!  It was very light, yet very filling!  Avocado is a new find for me….I had never really had it before a couple of months ago, but I love it now!

On the side I had fresh pineapple (MMMM!), blackberries, carrots, and pumpkin yogurt (1/2 pumpkin, 1/2 cup FF plain yogurt, cinnamon, SF syrup, splenda, and LF graham crackers on top).

It was a really filling meal….and that was a good thing because we would’t be eating for quite a while.

Lunch = 560 calories  (quite a bit higher than I usually go, but I knew I wouldn’t be eating for quite a while, and had also already gotten in two great workouts)

At the gym, I went on the treadmill for 30 minutes doing running and walking.  Chad and I signed up for our first 5k in May, so it’s time to train 🙂  I am not a runner.  I wish I was, but I’m not.  A couple years ago, I had built it up so I was able to run for an hour straight, but now I’m lucky if I can do 5 minutes!  I figured a 5k would re-motivate me…and it has!  We’re really excited too because it’s in Green Bay, WI and part of the 5k we actually RUN THROUGH LAMBEAU FIELD!!!!  We’re huge Packer Fans so we can’t wait to be on the field!

At the gym I also did an arm strength workout, ab stuff, and lunges/squats.  Great workout, and burned 375 calories.

When I got home, I took Baylee for a 70 minute walk outside because it was so nice outside!  Another 325 calories burned.

Exercise = 700 calories!!!

Friday Fish Delight

Most Fridays we try to have some sort of fish for our supper.  Growing up in Wisconsin, it’s tradition.  Wisconsin is mostly famous for their wonderful, tasty “Fish Fry” which is usually haddock or cod coated in beer batter (it IS Wisconsin afterall) and deep fried.  This is served along with french fries or potato salad.  Well, I’ve mentioned how much Chad and I love seafood.  Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to go out every Friday for a Friday Fish Fry, but it is an unhealthy as it sounds!  So, we’ve basically just brought that home and do it in a healthy way.  For tonight’s meal, I took frozen cod fillets from Sam’s Club, and thawed them out.  I then just spray them with cooking spray, and coat with Italian Breadcrumbs and bake.  That’s it.  Only 150 calories!!  Chad’s however has a little more – he forgoes the breadcrumbs and instead pours on a bunch of melted butter!  Delicious I’m sure, but I feel bad for his poor little clogging arteries 😦 

On the side I made Uncle Ben’s long grain chicken & wild rice, roasted asparagus, and a single serve steam in the bag sweet peas.  Wonderful, well balanced, tasty meal!

On to our second Friday tradition.  About 3 weeks ago, Chad, Baylee, and I started to walk to our local ice cream place that just opened back up for the season.  It’s about a 5 mile walk roundtrip so I feel better about it.  Plus they serve Dole Whip there!  For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s a low cal alternative to soft serve. 

Tonight we needed to drive there because it was 45 degrees and pouring, but it was fun and tasty nonetheless.  I get a small vanilla, with strawberries, banana, and coconut!  MMMMMM!

For a workout tonight I decided to skip the gym!!  I didn’t even feel guilty because it was the first time I’ve done this in about a month!  Instead I went home and did a workout tape – 3 mile Walk Away the Pounds.  We also took Baylee for a 30 minute walk in the RAIN AND COLD!  That’s dedication!

Tide Me Over

Around 3:00 I needed a little pick me up, so I had a salad with a tuna mixture on top.  Whenever we’re home and need to use the can opener for something, our cat, Cashmere, goes absolutely NUTS!!!!  Meowing like crazy and buttering up to us.  She always assumes we’re opening tuna 🙂  So last night she was going crazy and I felt bad, so I opened tuna for her.  I decided to save half of the can for myself 😉  I put it on top of my salad, along with chopped up carrots, cucumber, and balsamic dressing.  With it I cut up a mango – one of my ALL TIME favorite fruits!  I love all fruit, but especially mango, pineapple, and bananas!!!!

I also snuck in a 15 minute walk – it was still raining out so I ran to the little mall right next to where I work so I could get some movement in during the day!  (I sit all day long in an office job so my legs just scream for me to get up and walk around!)

The Golden Arches of Love

I slipped in a 15 minute walk on break and luckily escaped the rain!  Phew, that was a close one!  I didn’t even need a snack this afternoon – thanks Banana Hot Dog!!  After work I went to the gym for a quick 25 minute workout on the recumbent bike – I wanted to take it easy because I had a good book I was reading 🙂  Fit from Within.  Anyway, I realized yesterday I forgot to tell you about my latest gadget I am obsessed with!  A HEART RATE MONITOR!  I purchased the Polar F6 about a month ago, and boy does it motivate me!  I love watching how many calories I’m burning (or NOT burning so I can kick it up a notch!).  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

So I did a slow 25 minutes for a 100 calorie burn.

After that, my life changed.  Literally!  I didn’t have time to go home because wanted to go watch Chad at Softball Practice.  So I went to Miccy D’s for the first time in ages!!!  I got the Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken that they just brought back….before that, I was a Southwest Salad virgin but have heard so much about it I just had to try it for myself.  O.H M.Y G.O.S.H!!!!!!!!!!!!  It was honestly the best salad I have EVER had!

Before that, I had been in love with Chili’s Quesadilla Explosion Salad, but it’s like 30 points or something.  UGH!  I think this salad from McDonald’s is even better though!  And it’s only 9 points WITH the dressing!  YUMMMOOO!  I might pick up an application to work there just so I can get free Salads every day!

When I was done, I went to the softball diamond to watch the guys play some ball.  We took Baylee along and let her run around in the field while the guys played.  She was in heaven!  For those of you that don’t know what Boxers look like, they always have a wrinkly frown on their face.  I think they look like a sad old man – in a good way 🙂  However, last night when she was running free in the ball park, I actually think she had a big grin on her face!!!!  How can you not love this face??

 Bonus – not only was SHE smiling last night, but so was I.  I ran around chasing her for an hour straight!  I was SOOO pooped by the end!  I think I got a better workout in than Baylee or the guys!  I didn’t have my HRM on, but I probably burned like 4,000 calories or something like that.  No joke!

Supper/Dinner (whatever you call it where you are) = 9 points

THEN, when we got home from playing, I was in the mood for something.  I went with a thrown together mock trailmix – Almonds, dried cranberries, mini chocolate chips.  I love the mini chocolate chips because I feel like I get more bang for my buck.  I measure out 7 grams and it’s only 35 calories and I get my chocolate fix.  Life is good.

After work I went to the gym for an hour. Chad and I go to the local YMCA – it’s nothing great or glamorous but it’s close and it gets the job done! 🙂 I try to do an hour workout Monday-Friday. M,W, and F are 35 minutes cardio and 25 minutes strength training, and T and TH are 60 minutes cardio. Saturday and Sunday are dog park days with Baylee! We usually get about 7 miles in each day so it’s great for both of us!

Tonight I did 15 minutes on the stair stepper (that thing KICKS my butt!!) and 15 minutes on the elliptical. Then 30 minutes of various ab and arm exercises. I do most of the weights using a stepper as I lift so I get more cardio in and a leg workout as well!!

I came home and had a grilled Sunshine Burger. If you haven’t tried them, I’d recommend them! They’re great! And they’re SO good for you – only natural ingredients! I had that on an Ezekial Bun, along with some roasted asparagus!

Supper = 9 points / 475 calories

After supper, I got an unexpected workout in. Chad was playing catch with a friend in the yard (they’re starting a softball league in a couple of weeks!!!!) so I went outside with Baylee and ran around and played frisbee. We were both huffin’ and puffin’ for air by the end! It was great
